Stampin 101. Successful Stamping

Do you like my Hip Hip Hooray Card? I used Happy Birthday Gorgeous which is a photopolymer stamp set and You Lift Me Up which is a Clear Mount stamp set. I also used the matching Balloon Punch and the Classic label Punch. I love how these coordinating punches make it so easy!

Getting a really great stamped image is such a tada! moment and there is nothing more pleasing than seeing a new stampers expression of delight when they stamp for the first time. It never gets old!
There at some very common things that can sometimes happen when you first start stamping though that can leave you frustrated and instead of feeling pleased and excited can put you off. Fortunately these are very simple to prevent indeed.

The most common one I often see is the "halo" mark around the stamped image. This is usually caused by using the wrong sized acrylic block for the stamp. This results in the block making contact with the ink pad, or from pressing the stamp too hard into the ink pad.

Clear Mount stamps (red rubber) and Photopolymer stamps(see through) both require placing on to acrylic blocks to use. They simply cling on  on and pull off  between uses and are very easy to use. There are lots of stamp sizes and it is important to choose the nearest size block to fit your stamps to get the best results. Buying a small selection of sizes of acrylic blocks is a good investment and one you only have to make once. Each stamp set in the catalogue shows you the recommended size blocks needed taking any guess work away!

You can see at the very bottom on the front of the stamp set the recommended blocks for use. It is also listed in the catalogue.

In my You Tube Tutorial here, I explain and demonstrate the types of stamps you can buy, how to avoid mistakes and get a great result every time. I also show you how to care for your stamps. they are an investment after all.

I hope you like the video. Please give me a thumbs up and subscribe if you would like to see more.

This is the inside. I used a little Wink of Stella in clear to add sparkle to the clouds both on the front and inside my card.

I hope you find these stamping tips helpful. I will be running a series of videos and blog posts with tips and techniques. Please let me know if there are any you would like to see included and I will try to put them in. ☺

Dear Friend- Pretty Water Coloured Card

I have a pretty note card for you today.

Such a quick and simple project , yet I love it. You could easily make up a batch of these to give as a gift or make a quick card when you are pushed for time.

I have used the beautiful blooms Stamp Set and stamped and heat embossed the flower image in White on the water colour paper. I have then used my ink pads as a paint palate and water coloured using an aqua painter. (water filled brush). This is so lovely to do! The water colour paper ensures you can easily shade areas and the embossed areas help "keep" the colour where it is meant to go. My card was inspired by a beautiful one sent to me by The talented Anna Krol for a #randomactofkindness. She makes such lovely things. Do go and take A look at her blog at Anna Stampin Cave.

This is how I made it:

I tried it with Clear embossing but felt it was too pale.

I also tried it in copper embossing. I like it but prefer it in the white.

I stamped "Dear Friend" from the set inside the card and repeated the process of embossing and water colouring inside the card with the small bloom and also on the envelopes. I love to have something on my envelopes!

Card Base: Whisper White notecard
Card Layer : Wild Wasabi
Card Layer Water Colour Paper
Inks: Blushing Bride, Pear Pizzazz and Clear Versamark
Embossing Powder : White

I hope you like the video tutorial. Please like and subscribe if you do.

Stampin 101. How to cut bases and layers for your cards featuring This Little Piggy!

How cute are these little fellas?

This card is just here to make the blog post look pretty! 😃 and is an example to show you how I cut my card bases and layers. Something I had to find out for myself when I started card making.

I always use the same measurements to cut my card bases. I like to make a standard size card that fits one of the standard size Stampin Up envelopes. I love those envelopes. I used to think that all envelopes were much the same until I started using them. Now I've been spoiled I wont dress my cards up in anything else. Such lovely quality. 😊 But I digress! My card base measurements mean that I can cut two from each sheet of A4 card .

The way I cut my card stock most often is as shown above in the "This Little Piggy" card. I cut the card stock on my Stampin Up Trimmer with the long side at the top in half at 14.8 cm. I then score each piece in half at 10.5 cm. This gives me two card bases. Depending on which way up I would like the card I can have it in portrait or landscape. The other way I often cut my card is to cut the card stock with the short side at the top at 10.5 cms and then score each piece in half at 14.8 cms. This gives us a skinnier looking card and can still be used in both orientation.

Here is how its done.

So the key measurements for both type of card is 14.8 cms and 10.5 cms. My layers I then cut at half a cm smaller on both sides. So at 14.3 cm x 10 cm. Each layer I reduce the measurement by half a cm. This gives a nice border around the card.

I always put a white insert into my cards. This makes it feel more substantial and gives a solid back ground for stamping sentiments and writing in. This layer is the same as the measurements of my first layer,. So is 14.3 cms x 10 cms.

I hope this simple tip for cutting your card bases helps. I will be running a series of videos and blog posts with tips and techniques. Please let me know if there are any you would like to see included and I will try to put them in. ☺

I run monthly Card Classes and Memories and More Scrapbooking crops too. Suitable for all abilities. See the dates on my events page in the side bar or contact me here for more details. I'd love to craft with you.

Happy Birthday Card Global Design Project 098

This week for the Global Design Project #GDP098 we have a sketch challenge. Each week the Global Design Team set a new challenge. It varies from colour, theme, layout, sketch and CASE the designer. I really enjoy playing along as it stretches your creativity.

I knew I wanted to make a clean and simple card this week. One of my favourites at the moment is the Daisy Suite and I couldn't resist putting these beautiful Delightful Daisy papers in. I have used them to make my banners in different sizes. I raised the smallest one with a dimensional to give depth. I picked out the Powder Pink in the DSP and used it for my card layer.
To make a nice full flower I punched out four daisies and layered them up and curled the petals using my bone folder. I added a faceted Gem and also a couple of rhinestones around the sentiment to give a little sparkle.
I cut the ovals using the Layering Ovals and Stitched Shape Framelit Dies. I love this Happy Birthday Sentiment with its curly font. It is from the Happy Birthday Gorgeous stamp set.

I also tried it in Daffodil Delight! I think I prefer the pink. What do you think? Do let me know.

Hop over to the Global Design Project here to see the beautiful cards from the talented  Global Design Team. You can also see all the other entries for this week's challenge too.

I run monthly Card Classes and Memories and More Scrapbooking crops too. Suitable for all abilities. See the dates on my events page in the side bar or contact me here for more details. I'd love to craft with you.

Beautiful Leaf Note Card - You Make Me Smile. #GDP097

This week over at the Global Design Project #GDP097 we have a Colour Challenge. Each we have a different challenge set and its fun to take part. It really helps get the creativity flowing. Some times its a layout, or it can be a theme or sketch. This week we have these three colours to work with.
I was quite excited initially as I thought how well they would work together, but then I realised that I don't have the Wild Wasabi ink pad .(believe it or not I don't own them all! Almost but not quite...yet!) I then thought about it and realised that I do own the Stampin Write Marker in this colour. You can use your markers for both stamping and water colouring. Did you know that?

This is my card. I used my Wild Wasabi marker for both water colouring and stamping.
You can see how I made the card and how it is done here:

Card Base: Note Card. 3.5 x 5 inches
Layer in Wild Wasabi Card at 3.25 x 4.75 inches
Layer in Water Colour Paper 3 x 4.5 inches
Banner in Wild Wasabi and Whisper White. Both at 3 inches x 1 inch.

I hope you like the video. Please give me a thumbs up and subscribe if you do.

Hop over to the Global Design Project to see what the talented Global Design team have made. You can see all of the other entries for this week's challenge too. Here  Maybe it will inspire you to join in!

Life Is Beautiful #GDP096

Every week the team over at the Global Design Project set us new challenge. It changes weekly and it could be anything from a colour challenge, a sketch challenge, layout, theme or like this week a CASE the designer challenge. CASE stands for Copy And Selectively Edit.

The designer whose work we have been given to case is the talented Tanja Kolar who has used Dragonfly Dreams to make her beautiful card.

I have been loving the Just Add Colour Speciality Designer Series Papers this week so I decided to incorporate them into the challenge. These watering cans are so pretty. I used Old Olive as my card base and the Speciality DSP as my layer. I chose which watering can I wanted to use and sat down to a film with my youngest and spent a lovely hour colouring in with my water colour pencils, blender pen and a little fussy cutting. I cut a square in Whisper White using the Stitched Shape Framelit Dies for a back ground for my watering can. I then cut another square from Old Olive using the Layering Squares Dies. I love how these sets nest perfectly. I added some foliage and flowers from the DSP too. I have coloured my can in with clear Wink Of Stella to give it a little sparkle. Can you tell?
My Sentiment is from the Eastern Palace stamp set stamped in Pacific Point to match the detail on the can. I think it fits the card perfectly.

Hop over to the Global Design Project to see what the talented team have created and all the other entries into this week's challenge here.  Its fun to take part in the challenge and also to see what every one comes up with. Maybe I have inspired you to take part too.

I've enjoyed making cards with the Just Add Colour Papers this week. This is what I have been up to.

The houses are cute. They reminded me of the In The City stamp set, so I combined it with that to make a new baby card. Some of them at raised on dimensionals to give a little depth.

These teapots are beautiful, I have coloured them using the water colour pencils and blender pen again and teamed it with the Label Me Pretty stamps and Pretty Label punch. I love the Lemon Lime twist in the background paper I have used from the Eastern Palace Speciality DSP.

These Just Add Colour Designer Speciality Papers are available in the Stampin Up catalogue and are also part of a paper share I am currently offering. Find out all about that here

Its so therapeutic to sit and colour in and then create something lovely with what you have made. I hope you like them.

From My Kitchen To Yours!

Aren't these redcurrants a gorgeous colour? Its been a glorious summer so far and we have done well on our allotment for fruit.

They were begging to be turned into redcurrant jelly.

I have been waiting for the Label Me Pretty Stamp Set and Punch to arrive so I could make some beautiful tags for my jam! It arrived this week . Woo hoo!

I stamped in Real Red to match the jar lid and used the lovely Gingham ribbon in Night of Navy to dress up the jar. You could use any colours you like of course. Such a quick and simple way to dress up a little gift. It would look fabulous at Christmas to dress up jars of chutney. Maybe the label could be embossed with silver or gold and have ribbon to match!

Here's a quick You Tube Tutorial on how its done.

My plum tree in the garden is laden this year. I do hope I get enough to make some jam. There's nothing as nice as a jar of home made Victoria plum jam. I think I would use Berry Burst ink for the tag and the new crinkle seam binding ribbon in Berry Burst to give a luxurious feel. I have a couple of friends who have already given me their orders for a jar. It will be lovely to make it look a little more special.  I hope I have given you some inspiration too.
I Hope you like it. Please give me a thumbs up if you do and subscribe if you'd like to see more.

Happy Birthday Daisy!

Do you ever have a creative idea in your head that you need to get down on  paper? I knew that I wanted to make a different card using the Daisy punch.

I have made quite a few using the bundle of Stamps and  matching punch and  I love it. However, I wanted a "cleaner", fresher look for this card and realised to get this look I needed to keep it very simple. I used a water colour wash of Daffodil Delight on my mat of watercolour paper. ( 14.3 cm x 10 cm )  I layered two die cut "Happy Birthday"in Whisper White and Daffodil Delight card stock slightly offset to create a shadow. I added four daisies cut from plain Whisper White card using the Daisy Punch with a faceted gem in the middle. My base is Daffodil Delight card stock  cut at 14.8 cm and scored at 10.5 cm . I added a little Double Stitched ribbon in Daffodil Delight to finish it off.  Not a daisy stamp in sight on the actual card! I did however stamp the daisy in Daffodil Delight onto the back of the envelope. Everyone loves a hand stamped envelope after all. Much nicer to come through the post than a bill.

Here is how I made it .
I Hope you like it. Please give me a thumbs up if you do and subscribe if you'd like to see more.

I am very excited to be offering a paper share of these 4 collections from the range of Designer series papers!

 A Whole Lot of Lovely

 Naturally Eclectic
144185
 Coffee Break

144155

Pick a Pattern
144163

I am  offering a Paper Share from 4 of the Speciality Designer Series Paper Collections also.

 Bundle of Love
144143
 Eastern Palace
144147
 Just Add Colour
144180

Foil Frenzy
144125

A paper share explained:

Each pack of papers when ordered in its original state has 12 sheets. Two each of 6 double sided designs. This costs £10 when ordered and  £11.50 for the Speciality Designer Series Papers.  I am offering a quarter share of each of the above 4 collections equalling the same amount of papers as one full pack of one collection. That includes one sheet of each design in 6 x12 inches with the same price of £10 for the Designer Series Papers and £11.50 for the Speciality Designer Series Papers, plus postage and packing. Choose 1 or both options.

This is a brilliant way of trying all of the paper designs for a fraction of the cost and also reduces hoarding too!

See the papers here in my You Tube Video

Do you have trouble cutting into your papers?!   I know a lot of people who do. I am not sure why this happens. Maybe you are worried that you will run out, or that you might cut it wrong! I used to be like this too.  Hoarding papers or even buying two. One to use and one to stroke! I know for a fact I'm not the only one.😂  Its interesting to look back at old papers too. There are definite trends in patterned papers. They do date and hoarding them because they are too nice to use can be self defeating.  I now use all my papers and I have a theory that beautiful paper is only beautiful if you can see it. Not stuck in a drawer or box. Also, there will always be more pretty papers!

I am thinking that by receiving your papers already cut to 6 x 12  in the form of a paper share also may make it far less intimidating to cut into.

SO GO ON! Cut into those papers! See what you can create. I would love to see!

If you would like to partake in my July Paper Share do let know. I package it up and get it out to you as soon as possible. Usually within a couple of days of me receiving the shipment from Stampin up.

I run monthly Card Classes and Memories and More Scrapbooking crops too. Suitable for all abilities. See the dates on my events page in the side bar or contact me here for more details. I'd love to craft with you.

Beautiful Note Card Gift Box WIth You Tube Tutorial

Last week my entry for the Global Design Project Challenge was this simple card made using Very Vanilla cardstock and heat embossing. It was very easy to make and a very effective card.

I embossed the back of the envelopes to match. No naked envelopes here.😊

I tend to share my makes on various crafting groups and I was very surprised and  happy when this one got over 200 likes on one of the groups I shared it in. It shows that less is often more and sometimes the simpler the better.

I thought it would be lovely to have a set of these in a gift box to match to gift to someone who loves the handwritten word.

The box is made from a sheet of A4 Very Vanilla Card stock cut at 11.5 by 8 inches.
I have scored it at 3/4 inch, 5 3/8 , 6 1/8, and 10 3/4 inches.
Then scored with the short side at the top at 3/4 of an inch and 7 1/4 inches.

See the You Tube Tutorial of how I made it here.

I hope you like it. Please give me a thumbs up if you did and subscribe for more inspiration.

I run monthly Card Classes and Memories and More Scrapbooking crops too. Suitable for all abilities. See the dates on my events page in the side bar or contact me here for more details. I'd love to craft with you.
